Meeting with Kevin Brasil - September 12, 2018

Today the team met up with Kevin Brasil, our small scale team coach, and discussed our design requirements for this year's track. I asked him questions on how we could possible improve their brackets and the steps they took to assemble the track together.

I took notes on how the bottle jack bender worked and what design specifications were established by last year's team that our 2018-19 team could use for our iteration of the small-scale track. Kevin also suggested using injection molding for the brackets to save some time instead of using a 3D printer, which would take three hours for each indivdiual piece.

For the next meeting, I will be focusing on the design specs and based off what Kevin said, how we can improve the third rail and curved sections of the track. I will also research on how I could create an injection mold for our brackets that we would need for our design.

Lightning Talk 1 - September 5, 2018

At the team's third meeting, we presented our first Lightning Talk to the rest of the Spartan Superway team. In the presentation, we discussed what the previous year's small track team achieved. We also discussed how our goals for this semester's iteration of the track is to introduce bulkier brackets and to level the track with a better support design. After all the presentations were over, the team discussed our potential deliverables and objectives for this year. I also took pictures of the previous track for reference and for future use in presentations. For the next meeting, we will have written our project proposal and hopefully would have made contact with our coach to discuss funding and scheduling. February 6, 2019 - Organizing and New Location

On the 6th of February, the team focused on organizing our new workplace on Terraine St. This came after the whole team helped Spartan Superway move from the old warehouse location. About 3/4 of our parts were stored in a room and we spent our time hauling the old material to our workplace. We realized, however, that some of our parts were missing and still are. We assume that they were taken in for scrap metal so we plan to re-fabricate those parts.  Apart from cleaning up the workplace, the team spent their time on two things. Brandon and I went ahead and laid out the track on the floor so we could get the general sense of the space it would be taken. Second, the team had to re-design the track bender since there were resources that were previously available to us before that aren't now.  For the following week, we plan on continuing to improve the track bender design and to work on rebuilding the previous track. Continue Improving the Track Bender - November 8, 2018

For this meeting, we began to design our new track bender. We decided on essentially flipping the system on the side so that it rests on a wooden board. The two wheels will be drilled into the board while there is a cylindrical cut out on top for the handle. The bottle jack itself will be flipped on its side, pushing a grounded board and resting against a movable platform on the bottom. The platform will be resting on top of a 1/4 inch cut out so that it may slide as we increase the force on the bottle jack. I was also in talks with setting up a meeting with Daniel of Bojo Tools and Logan from the small scale bogey team so that we may tour the factory. Daniel said he was willing to continue to help us with our project and to possibly design our parts for injection molding. Patrick and I are still in discussing on how the inductive charging hub will work on the track. I plan on sketching out the station for next meeting.
